1943-1944

Billy Gilbert was no stranger to short-subjects. He appeared in scores of two-reel comedies for Hal Roach, Educational, RKO.

In the 1930's, Gilbert appeared in a few Columbia shorts supporting fellow comics like The 3 Stooges and Harry Langdon, but it wasn't untilt he early 1940's that Columbia signed him to headline his own series of shorts.

The Billy Gilbert series was syndicated by Screen Gems Television in 1959.

Billy and Cliff get their clothes wet when they try to help a woman across a muddy street; while drying off in her apartment, her jealous husband shows up. TRIVIA: Cliff Nazarro shares above-the-title billing in what is basically a reworking of the Laurel and Hardy feature BLOCK-HEADS (1939)


CRAZY LIKE A FOX (5/1/44) D: Jules White. Jack Norton, Esther Howard, Dan Seymour, Black Whiteford, Lynton Brent, Eddie Laughton, Duke Ward, Judy Malcolm, Charles Heine Conklin Victor Travers. Publicity man Norton Persuades taxi driver Billy to substitute for an uncooperative potentate. TRIVIA: A remake of Andy Clydes AM I HAVING FUN! (1936).

WEDDED BLISS (8/18/44) D: Harry Edwards. Christine McIntyre, Vernon Dent. BIlly tries to fix a friends matrimonial dilemma. TRIVIA: A remake of Charley Chases MAN BITES LOVEBUG (1937).
